The Day Camp Site Director is responsible for the overall supervision of Nature Adventures Day Camp consisting of approximately 120 campers and 20 staff per week. The Director is responsible for staff supervision and all administration work relating to on-site tasks at camp. The Day Camp Site Director is responsible for being actively involved in overall planning and on-site implementation of the program. During the months prior to camp, the Day Camp Site Director will be actively involved in the hiring process, staff training and overall camp planning. The Day Camp Director assists and oversees the Site Director.
1. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the camp community and fulfill South Shore Natural Science Center’s mission. The director is responsible for being actively involved in the overall planning, development and on-site implementation of a nature-based, creative, and age-appropriate STEM program. The Day Camp Site Director, with the assistance of the Camp Director, will ensure that camp is in compliance with all applicable local and state guidelines as well as the policies and procedures of the South Shore YMCA.
2. STAFF ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Assists the Camp Director in hiring, training, managing, developing, coaching, scheduling and directing staff and volunteers as needed. The site director is responsible for staff development and coaching throughout the summer as well as developing strategies to motivate staff. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Conducts safety, certification and service training for staff.
3. FAMILY ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Builds relationships with and among camp families, responds to inquiries and solves problems. Creates a safe and supportive camp environment, assists in recruiting and engaging new participants, and connects families to the YMCA’s cause. The Director will review camper information sheets including allergy/medical history to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all children attending camp.
4. FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Works with appropriate branch staff to provide program facilities for members that are safe, clean, adequately equipped, well maintained and attractive. Obtains and maintains all camp supplies and equipment in good order.
5. VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
Builds and develops volunteer capacity, sharing the social responsibility.
6. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND SUPPORT
Assists in YMCA fund raising activities/events, and engages in collaborative relationships with community organizations in order to strengthen support and build community.
7. PAYROLL MANAGEMENT
Assists the Camp Director in ensuring staff payroll is submitted accurately and on-time

- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Environmental Education, Science Majors/Degrees or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of related camp experience and/or training; or equivalent combinations of education and experience.
- A commitment to working with children and adults from a variety of backgrounds.
- Skills in leading a variety of traditional camp activities.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Must possess excellent communication skills and demonstrate poise professionalism with staff, parents, participants and other professionals.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR
- Computer experience required: Microsoft office suite including Word, Publisher & Excel. Training in internal operating software provided.
The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. This job is mainly active while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to run, sit, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
