The Lab Technician performs solder and manual assembly of various electronic components, touch up soldering, testing, and repair of components for all surface mount printed circuit boards and optical modules. Soldering using a microscope is required.

Successful candidate will have a minimum of three years of prior experience performing hand solder on printed circuit boards and optical component flex circuits working with lead free solder.  SMT fine pitch ICs, 0201 parts, microscope work, experienced in BGA rework is a plus.  In this role, your job description and responsibilities will include:


  • Follows effective procedures to ensure the production of a safe and working telecommunication product.
  • Identifies and assists with troubleshooting routine issues and defects.
  • Ability to solder and re-work optical modules and PCBA's.
  • Systematically breaks down problems using standard approaches that have proven to be successful in the past.
  • Has worked with and understands standard procedures for working with optical fibers.
  • Understands and able to operate optical test equipment (OSA, power meters, wavelength meters, etc.)
  • Understands the importance and ability to work in a static free environment.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and calibration of production test stations.
  • Actively communicates improvement ideas, issues, concerns, etc. to team members.
  • Works to help maintain positive working relationships between all team members.
  • Understands entire production processes, and demonstrates follow-through in moving a process forward.
  • Ability to order production and R&D supplies.
  • Is aware of other departments and business areas, what they do, and how they fit into the overall objective of marketing and delivering products and services.
  • Other supporting responsibilities as assigned.
  • Overall, has a thorough working knowledge of optical transceiver PCBA's and modules and works to help others understand.
  • Practices safe work habits and ability to lift 40 pounds.
  • Able to work with limited supervision, have strong teamwork and communication skills, both verbally and written, good documentation skills, strong computer skills, work effectively under stressful conditions both on site and at contract manufacturer locations.
  • Able to work with mechanical hand tools in a developmental capacity.
